Below are some things to consider when planning for your photo session.
*make-up
should be worn as you normally would. Do not use make-up that has a frosted effect, as it tends to be unappealing in the lighting used in the studio.
*Hands & Feet & Hair:
should receive a bit more special grooming prior to the photo shoot. In many cases children will be photographed barefoot, and on occasion adults too will be photographed this way.
-Hands often make an appearance in photos, whether near the face or resting on the arm. Stick to manicuring your nails as you normally would. Trying out new or trendy styles you do not customarily wear is not recommended, classic is always best.
*Shoes & Socks:
should be complimentary to the outfit being worn, similar in value tone...not distracting or heavily patterned.
-For children's shoes be aware of images or words that are on the sole of the shoe. These may distract from the child's face when the bottom of the shoe appears ( which it does do, quite often in children's movements).
*Clothing:
choose the clothing be in keeping with the subject's personality (avoid overly trendy items - as this will date your images in years to come). Also, consider the lifestyle in which you lead. What is more in keeping with who you are, casual or formal clothing, or somewhere in between? Where will you be displaying the framed images, formal setting or casual? Please feel free to contact Tiffany directly with any questions.
-For adults and teens: avoid clothing that is too revealing. For example, extremely low cut tops. Try not to choose clothing that may have shoulder pads, or have a tendency to expose bra straps.
-For photo sessions including more than one person, clothing should be chosen to harmonize. Example: several shades of blue tones/ or all dark colors, or all light colors. Avoid heavily patterned clothing, or overly bright neon colors.
-lighter shades of color in clothing are ideal choices if you are interested in Tiffany hand tinting your black & white photos with her oil paints & brushes.
-please let us know what type of clothing and their colors you will be wearing for the session. This facilitates our planning and allows for a smoother session.
*Jewelry:
should be kept to a minimum, as it competes with the subjects face and expressions. In the case of younger adults, jewelry can be a form of expression and part of the subject's personality. In these cases, jewelry or other adornment may be viewed differently.
*Glasses:
removing the lenses from eye glasses can be helpful, due to the reflection and glare that they tend to put off.
*Pet treats & toys for Dogs:
Tiffany will discuss with you if treats can be used during the photo session. And if so, if you will be providing something specific that happens to be a favorite, or whether we are welcome to utilize some of our own as well.
-Special toys or a favorite blanket or leash all tend to get our best friends attention. These will also be some of the issues Tiffany will discuss with Pet Photography clients.
*Grooming for Dogs:
Be sure to bath and brush your pet prior to the photo shoot. If it so happens that they become dirty while engaged in an outdoor photo shoot, do not worry, as these true photo journalistic style (real life moments) can be some of the best shots.
*Energy Level of Dogs:
If you have a rather young or otherwise high energy pet, you may want to spend some extra time playing with him or walking him prior to the photo session, as to burn off some of the extra energy.
-If your pet is older and has trouble getting around, we will want to consider the time of day when he tends to have the most energy, and plan the photo session around his more pleasant and easier moments.
*Favorite Words:
Tiffany will discuss with you some of your pet's favorite words. Words that tend to get their attention, or that elicit a particular expression from the pet. Example: Let's go for a walk / Where's Billy? / and so on......
*Getting to Know You:
For pets and young children, Tiffany will typically spend some time getting to know them first, and once everyone is a bit more relaxed and comfortable, and less aware of the camera,. we will begin.
*Photo Session in Your Home or Exterior Setting:
*When photographing a pet or person in their own environment, we will typically view the area to observe locations and lighting conditions, either prior to the photo session or half an hour before the session is to begin.
** Pets: Pets photograph particularly well on bright sunny days in outdoor settings.
*Please feel free to ask questions or express ideas of what you would like to incorporate in your photo session
