The Commissioning & Painted Portrait Process
The Commissioning & Painted Portrait Process
Portrait Commissioning Process
The artist will review all the portrait options and details in a meeting with the client either in person, or over the phone, or web camera conference.
In State (IL), Out of State, & International Clients Welcome
The artist and the client will determine if there will be a photo session to supply a photo for the paintings reference.
An existing photo can be used as the paintings reference if the client so chooses, or if the client is out of state, or the portrait is of a deceased individual. Travel accommodations can be made for either the client to travel to the artist’s studio, or for the artist to travel to the clients location to preform the photo shoot. When possible, it is always nice to be able to meet the subject of the portrait. ( Professional photo session fee is waived for portraits that have a fee of four thousand and above. Otherwise a fee and photo shoot contract will be processed)
. Gift Certificates for all portraiture & other commissioned and non commissioned art can be customized and prepared for the gift giver. This is helpful when the gift giver wants to involve the recipient in the art purchase or has an event that happens to be right around the corner, and does not allow for the time needed to create the art. click on the word Gift Certificate above to see a sample.
The Artist and The Client Will Discuss:
- clothing options for the photo shoot
- indoor or outdoor photo shoot options
- casual or formal style of portrait
- number os subjects in the portrait
- how much of the figure will be rendered in the portrait
- overall size of the portrait
- medium the portrait will be created in ( charcoal, watercolor, colored pencil, pastel or oil)
- type of background - painterly coloring only or a partial detail or full detail background
............................................
Once the photo reference is chosen by the artist & the client, the artist will need the client to make the final decisions regarding the above mentioned options. Based of the chosen criteria the artist will be able to determine the final cost of the portrait. At this stage the portrait’s contract will be e-mailed, faxed or mailed in traditional form to the client. At which point the client will need to sign and date the contract, make a copy of the contract for themselves, and mail the original back to the artist. Once the contract is received and a 50% deposit of the portrait’s total cost paid, the client’s place on the portrait calendar are held. ( client’s are welcome to pay in check form or by credit card -Visa & Mastercard)
Throughout the portrait’s creation the artist will keep in touch with updates about the portrait. If needed a small charcoal study will be created for review. (applies to portraits $5,000 and up)
The balance is due upon the portrait’s completion and prior to delivery.
.....................................
Not included in the price of the portrait:
sales tax, if required, framing or matting, shipping, and shipping materials, out of town travel & living expenses.
.......................................
The artist can order the frame and have the art installed for the client. ( separate fee for portraits less than $5,000)
The client is also welcome to have their own framer preform the process.
